Chi-town adventures!

The Windy City! This past weekend I went to Chicago (for the 7th time lol) to spend Valentine's Day weekend with Drew. I finally decided to do a blog post for you guys to show you some of my favorite hot spots in town. This city is full of positive vibes, gorgeous sites, and yummy food!

The FAMOUS BEAN!

If you have ever heard of Chicago, you have most definitely heard about The Bean (a.k.a Cloud Gate) that sits in the plaza at Millennium Park. It is a public sculpture by Indian-born British artist, Anish Kapoor. It is so beautiful, entertaining, and a MUST SEE while in Chicago. It reflects Chicago’s high skyline and has a mirror-like structure that appeals to visitors. Plan to stay here for about 30 minutes or so depending on the crowds and the amount of photos you want to take.

360 Chicago Observation Deck

The 360 Chicago Observation Deck is 1000 feet above the Magnificent Mile in the John Hancock Building. This is the BEST view of the skyline and Lake Michigan. There is a bar and cafe on the top as well to enjoy coffee, soda, or a cocktail. Drew and I also were able to experience The Tilt — Chicago’s highest thrill ride! It is an enclosed platform that tilts you out from the 94th floor at a 30 degree angle to have an even more intense view of the city’s history and iconic architecture. This experience was one of a kind for Drew and I and made for the most epic photos together.

Giordano's Deep Dish

Chicago is known for it’s famous deep dish pizza! Giordano's has some of THE BEST there is to offer in the windy city and is connected to the Navy Pier. There is a special history that goes into their restaurant and how they created their famous recipe. This restaurant is legendary in Chicago, so be sure to stop by Giordano’s on a day that you’re not counting carbs lol!

Blue Man Group at Briar Street Theatre

I don’t want to give away too much of the show, but it was so entertaining and a unique show. The Blue Man Group is so very talented and interact well with the audience. It is a comedy, musical, and art all into one show. Drew had seen them once in Vegas when he was in his early 20’s, and he said it was a completely different show which he enjoyed. So even if you have seen them before, definitely consider seeing them at Briar Street Theatre!

Sushi Suite 202

The Sushi Suite 202 had it’s grand opening this weekend and we were lucky enough to experience their special event. It is a speakeasy style restaurant located in suite 202 of the Hotel Lincoln. When we entered, they immediately hung up out coats and offered us a drink. They had a few different selections and handmade cocktails to offer. Around the room was little snacks to munch on while the sushi was being prepared. Normal dining at The Sushi Suite offers a 17 course (each course is a different sushi roll) and was made fresh right in front of you. They had staff to guide you through each piece and serve you directly. This was a high-end Omakase 60 minute timed exclusive experience in an intimate environment where you can mingle with others in the room.

The Navy Pier

Last but certainly not least, the Navy Pier! This pier is 3,300 feet long on the shoreline of Lake Michigan. They have a variety of shops, restaurants, programs, exhibits, tours, cruises, games and events offered here. They had a Winter Music Series going on with an array of live music and musicians! This weekend was also NBA All-Star 2020 weekend in Chicago so it was a bit more crowded than usual. There were a few events pertaining to the All Star game, so the Navy Pier was a hotspot for sports lovers. The Navy Pier is wonderful to visit during restaurant week in Chicago which is usually the second week of February. After grabbing a bite to eat, take a stroll down the shoreline and see the beautiful water. It is a bit chilly in the winter time but worth the trip to see!

Overall, Chicago is the most beautiful city with lots of art and yummy dishes, but VERY VERY COLD! So, if planning a trip to Chi-town within the months of October-March, pack lots and lots of layers and windbreakers. I was over the moon ecstatic being able to see Drew for Valentines Day weekend as well as spend it doing some pretty amazing things in the city. This weekend was so perfect and I can’t wait to see him (and Chicago) again!

A huge thank you to Choose Chicago for setting up all of our amazing adventures!

XOXO Amber
