Best of Oklahoma City!

I had the best trip visiting Drew in Oklahoma City last weekend! We had the opportunity to pop into some of the local hotspots in town as well as do our own exploring. I wanted to share the experience with you all and give you a glimpse of our weekend in OKC!

Grey Sweater:

We started our first night in the city off at Grey Sweater. We had a mixologist meet us for an entire journey (@tails.with.thom) and created a unique and unforgettable experience of flavors in his cocktails. This journey is a new idea they are bringing to the menu, and Drew and I were so lucky to have been the guinea pigs. It was centered off of rum and the drinks consisted of:

- Thousand days of war

- Jet Pilots

- Keep calm and "curry" on (YES, it had curry in it and it was ON POINT!)

- Grand finale: a shot of pink milk!

We also were able to meet the legendary Chef Andrew Black. He stopped by the bar to treat us to some dessert! Chef Black is the Executive Chef and Co-Owner of Grey Sweater, Black Walnut restaurant, and La Baguette Deep Deuce. I am linking an article about Chef Black here that shares more about his remarkable story and how he is influential in Oklahoma City. Truly an amazing man and I was honored to have the opportunity to meet him!

The drinks and overall experience was so magical, and Thom's passion for mixology really shined through.

The Riverwalk:

The next morning we explored around the riverwalk and went for a run (also known as the "Bricktown Canal"). It has a water taxi you can ride to explore around town and learn the history of OKC. Along the canal there are plenty of shops and restaurants to pop into and enjoy the view. There is also the Chickasaw Bricktown ballpark you can catch a game at which hosts The AAA Oklahoma City Dodgers. As the canal turns south towards the river, it's highlighted by hiking and bike trails. You will also find some water features and landscape park areas. It was beautiful scenery to spend the weekend!

Waffle Champion:

We went to brunch at Waffle Champion and OH MY GOSH -- SO GOOD! We decided to go with one savory waffle and one sweet waffle dish. We got the Waffle bites as an appetizer, Bacon Egg & Cheddar waffle sandwich, and the Cinnamon Roll Waffle. The line was out the door (but it moved quick!) and the space is so young and trendy. Waffle Champion is a huge hotspot in town and the locals LOVE it!

Shop Good OKC:

After brunch we took a stop by a family-owned local boutique called Shop Good OKC. It has the cutest graphic tees and adorable Oklahoma knick knacks for your home. All of their tees are unisex, come in several colors, and are very cultured! They have the most beautiful story: It all started in an old barn, with a hand-me down printed press, Youtube tutorial and 24 blank tee shirts. So inspiring!

Black Walnut:

We had a beautiful dinner at Black Walnut on our last night in the city. This was the perfect date night location for us and we were able to soak in the last bit of time together. The menu at Black Walnut is an American cuisine style from a broad range of sources. We started off with the Macaroni and Cheese bites as an appetizer and they were DELICIOUS! Then for our meals, I got the Branzino with lobster sauce and coucous. Drew ordered the Cast Iron strip with potatoes and sprouts. Black Walnut was such a prestige and yummy restaurant and the staff was so helpful and welcoming! We can't wait to come back and visit our friends at the Deep Deuce.

Myriad Botanical Gardens & Crystal Bridge:

The next morning we took a stroll around the Myriad Botanical Gardens and Crystal Bridge. The Botanical Gardens is an urban oasis in the center of downtown OKC! They also have group tours, events, educational programs and much more! The Crystal Bridge is a tropical conservatory that is home to thousands of beautifully displayed desert and tropical plantings. There is also cascading waterfalls, a sky bridge, and 750 varieties of plants! It has such a unique design and stunning for a morning adventure walk.

We want to send a special thank you to the Visit OKC and Day Date Inc. team for making this "Best of OKC" article possible. Drew and I are looking forward to future visits to the beautiful Oklahoma city!

XOXO - Amber
